Secretary of State for BEIS visits Evince

Thanks to some adept footwork by our local MP, Paul Howell, we were privileged to host a visit to Evince facilities today by Dr Kwasi Kwarteng, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

After learning more about Evince’s pioneering technologies and touring its laboratories, Dr Kwarteng met with CEO Gareth Taylor and four other representative CEOs from the burgeoning North East Advanced Material Electronics (NE-AME) cluster to discuss the cluster’s importance to the local region and the wider UK economy.

The five CEOs who met Dr Kwarteng highlighted the common challenges facing leading-edge technology companies who want to operate outside the “Golden Triangle”. This image shows Dr Gareth Taylor, Evince CEO (third from left) with Dr Kwarteng (fourth from left).

Recent research has evidenced that the NE-AME cluster already employs more people and generates a greater GVA than the compound semiconductor cluster in South Wales, despite it having nothing like the same profile, government backing and investment, or media attention.

The North East has a tradition of technological excellence and our future shines brightly with the businesses based at NETPark such as Evince and the other companies in the room today.

It has been an absolute delight to share the NETPark experience with Kwasi and I can see he shares my enthusiasm for the collaborative network that exists for NETPark companies and how the local networks link into several national and international networks.
