A New Class of Diamond Based Power Devices
It's now becoming increasingly recognised that concepts such as electricity smart grids are missing a key component in the jigsaw - which is the availability of power electronic devices able to operate at voltages of 10,000V and above to deliver the energy control needed at the place where it is most needed: at the distribution level.
Evince is working on the development of a family of devices that exploit the core principle of embedded field emission in diamond. The family include:

Because they are based on diamond all of these devices will inherently offer high voltage, high current capabilities with a robustness that cannot be matched by any other semiconductor technology. Also while other wide bandgap materials are often touted as being suitable for high temperature performance, only diamond has the necessary combination of electical and thermo-mechanical properties needed to make devices able to operate up to 400șC.
In 2009 we announced the first working device - a diode - based our technology principles. We will be announcing more details on our first commercial devices in 2012.
